How the NFC tags work
A Caffeine Level Critical tag contains just a web link. The phone opens the link when scanned, and the cup is logged in a second. Same mechanism whether you host it yourself or let us do it.

Frequently asked questions
Do users need to install an app?
No. NFC scanning just opens a web page in the phone's browser. Those who want to can create a profile to collect their own badges, but you can also log cups without one.
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes. Because the tags use a regular web link (URL), scanning works on both iPhone and Android — without an extra app or special permissions.
Where is the data stored?
In the self-hosted version: on your own machine/server — you own everything. In the hosted version: safely with us in European data centres (Finland, GDPR-friendly — your data never leaves the EU), with daily backup and updates included.
Can we switch from self-hosted to hosted later?
Yes. The physical tags then need to be rewritten once because the domain changes, but all functionality is the same.
What does the free trial mean?
You get full access to the hosted version for 14 days without paying. You add a card when you sign up, but we don't charge anything until the trial ends. Cancel before day 14 and you pay nothing. After the trial the subscription renews automatically at the regular monthly price, and you can cancel any time.
Do you collect usage statistics?
Only a single anonymous, aggregate total: how many cups have been logged in total across all hosted instances. We never count per person, per department or per customer, we set no tracking cookies, and we share nothing with third parties. The number is shown as "cups logged so far" on our website.
